In the brain, love and bliss are almost identical.
Harvard Medical School did brain scans on 2,500 people while they were looking at photos of loved ones. They found that the experience of love was high in dopamine and oxytocin, along with an increase in cortisol when you’re “falling in love.” Let me translate this.
Dopamine gives you the euphoria associated with the use of cocaine or alcohol. NOTE: male fruit flies that were sexually rejected drank four times as much alcohol as fruit flies that mated with female fruit flies. “Same reward center,” said one researcher, “different way to get there.”
This means that alcohol or cocaine activate the love chemicals in your brain – you CAN use drugs as a substitute for love. OR – love is a substitute for drugs.
Your brain produces this chemical when you feel love.
Oxytocin gives feelings of contentment, calmness and security. Sounds like relationship, yes? Dopamine and oxytocin.
In deep meditation, 7 bliss chemicals are released in our brains. Not 2. Seven!
After 50 years of research on meditation, multiple studies have given us this incredible information. Meditation triggers these bliss chemicals in your brain: Dopamine, Oxytocin, serotonin, Norepinephrine, Beta-endorphin, Nitric oxide, and Anandamide (named for the Sanskrit “ananda”, meaning bliss)…
